South East Regional League Team
I’m Rob, I’ve played a season at Norwich City before, and am heading back to the best club in Norfolk this year!
Hope you are all having a fantastic summer break from regular korfball. As part of coming back to Norwich City this season (which I’m really happy to be doing!) Phil has asked me to coach one of the NKA Division 1 teams following the promotion of NC2, which will also take part in SERL (the south east regional league).
For people interested in taking part in this team- it is a bigger time commitment, harder games and also comes with a commitment to travelling to away games throughout the season, but is a great way to improve your game. I’d like to know if there is anyone who would like to be considered for this team when we (however it is done as I don’t know yet) sort out team selection for the season. I know of quite a lot of people that are interested from speaking to everyone who has been at summer training but anyone who hasn’t been obviously I’d love to know if you are keen to be involved, so we can have a further chat about it.
We will be selecting a minimum squad of 6 boys and 6 girls, because of the extra games and lots of Sundays with two games on the same day, so I just thought I should point out that subs will probably be used a lot more frequently in this team. No-one (including me if picked!) is guaranteed a specific amount of game-time, although we’ll try hard to make sure it’s as fair as possible across these players.
There will also be some changes to training at Norwich City this season. Again with Phil asking, Joe Skeet (Norfolk Korfball Chairperson and general celebrity, previously UEA but also coming to the best club in Norfolk!) and I will be taking more of the training sessions, which we hope you’ll enjoy and hope you have enjoyed over summer. Tuesday training sessions will have a club session as normal in the normal time, and then will continue for half an hour to forty minutes after the end of regular training for SERL LEVEL training (emphasis on SERLLevel rather than SERL only). Anyone is welcome to stay and participate in this part of training, regardless of team selections or the normal team you play in, as I’d like to help everyone in the club to be able to progress as much as they want to. All I’d ask is that you are coming to that part of training prepared to work hard and learn a lot!
In the near future we also have a training session on Saturday 22nd August at the UEA Sportspark from 11am – 3pm. This session is intended as a bit of a pre-season session for anyone interested in playing SERL this year- to learn a bit about what is required, some of the playing strategy we’ll be implementing as a team and learn about what I’m like as a coach as well! From my perspective it’s important to have a slightly longer session to do this in- hence the four hour slot and not taking up normal training time. The intention is to make the team fun and positive but competitive- ultimately the goal is to win the South East Regional League. As with all other training run by NCKC, anyone from the club is welcome to attend, I just need to make it clear to manage expectations that the session will probably be physically harder than a typical Norwich City Session and that there will be an element of fitness involved. I appreciate that it may not be possible for you to attend over summer- this isn’t a problem as long as you let me know you’re interested in taking part still- it won’t affect selection, although it does help me to see some of you play!
PLEASE DO NOTE: any training with a SERL emphasis will be physically hard and will be tactical/strategic. It’s intended as such and is intended for club members who want to progress their skills to come and improve, so please understand that if you are coming along! For safety reasons, only players that are allowed to play in adult leagues can attend (sorry for any of the up and coming juniors, but H&S comes first).
Thanks for your time reading this and it’s always the case that if you have any questions you’re very welcome to ask me! My email address is [email protected] and I’m always happy to help wherever I can. Let me know in advance if you’re coming on the 22nd and also if you are interested in being part of the SERL Squad this year, so that I can create a list of interested players and start communicating with you a bit better!
Cheers,
Rob & Joe”
