Our very own Joe has started running fitness sessions on Zoom and setting fun challenges for all club members. The Zoom sessions last just under an hour and run on Sunday mornings at 10.30 and Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm - joining link is here https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82838769223

Joe is also setting challenges so you can complete his tasks and win kudos and maybe the odd prize. Download the Strava app to record your activities which can be walks, cycle rides or runs. There a Norwich City Korfball Club group so that we can keep each other company without meeting up - but don't forget to press 'record' when you set off - I keep forgetting.

You can download the app from the Google Playstore play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.strava or Apple Appstore apps.apple.com/gb/app/strava-run-ride-training/id426826309

Korfball suspended due to coronavirus pandemic

1/6/2020

Everyone by now is familiar with the impacts of coronavirus and lockdown. Korfball has been suspended and we don't know when training and matches will start up again, but we are hoping that we might be able to start playing again in the autumn.

We are still welcoming potential new members to make contact with the club and join us when we can restart.

Korfball Summer Camp 2020 is sadly cancelled but we are planning a BBQ or social event at the end of August – again, we might have to revise plans closer the time but hopefully we will be able to meet outside by then.

In the meantime, we are keeping in touch through Facebook (and WhatsApp for members) so please follow us on Facebook for updates

Some history!
Many years ago, a group of people sat in the bar at Wensum Lodge in King Street and formally set up Norwich City Korfball Club.

The game had been played in Norwich for the previous 5 or 6 years but there were no clubs, just teams (our was called Ratcatchers as there were a few people from Environmental Health playing) and around this time there were enough players to start forming clubs - Norwich City, Stingers, Vikings (based at Norwich Union) started us going on a Norfolk League.

Following its formal constitution as a club, Norwich City went from strength to strength, winning the league for many years and growing to six teams and competing in the National League and tournaments in the UK and abroad with a highlight around 1996 when the first team was coached by Rachel Birkby (now Nightingale) who pushed a young team to National League victory. Many of the younger players grew up and went off uni, and on returning three or four years later found that there were too many players at 1st team/National League level so they split off and formed Knights who we have always had a special relationship with as we trained up many of their best players.

We have always had a close relationship with UEA too as student korfball is where many people get hooked and so want to play after they leave UEA, and for many years they were coached by Philip Buttinger who has also been the long-term chair of Norwich City. A number of people that played then are still playing in the Norfolk league.

Over the next few months, we will be filling the blog with memories, stories and photographs of the olden days of Korfball in Norwich and Norfolk so if you have anything please email it to [email protected] and follow the blog for more updates

Going away party for Matt

3/2/2013

Matt Holgate is off travelling to New Zealand for an open-ended adventure. We will miss his energy and commitment to the club and playing for the second team so we are going to give him a good send off.
Philip has invited everyone to his house to start off at 6 Bucks Yard from 7pm and then on the Cuba Revolutionz in Queen Street. If you can get there for 7pm text Philip to check out where the party is.

It's also Will's birthday celebration so two good reasons to come out. Plus it's Friday of course.

Training this week on Tuesday at 8pm
